Dorje Phagmo is a dakini, a Tantric Buddhist deity whose sadhana (practice) originated in between the 10th and 12th century. Dorje Phagmo is often associated with triumph over ignorance as well as with abandonment (one of her hidden aspects is Varuni, goddess of alcohol and intoxication). Dorje Phagmo is often depicted with a Kartika (ritual chopper) in her right hand and Kapala in her left hand and is an important deity for Tantric initiation, especially for new initiates – Dorje Phagmo's practice is said to be well-suited to those with strong desirous attachment, and to those living in the current "degenerate age". Her consort is Dorje Phurba popularly know as the Vajrakilaya which means “Thunderbolt Nail” obliterates the minions of aggression by plunging the self-existent dagger of non-duality into the heart of hatred wherever it hides and whomever hides within themselves.
