These beautiful, sacred pieces of art carry with them the energy of the tradition, the deities, and the artists. Traditionally, a cloth covering is used to contain the painting’s energy as well as to protect the thangka when it is not in use. When the thangka is being used or displayed, the cloth is drawn up to form a drape resembling a flower. Stitched to either side of the cloth hang two decorative red streamers.
THANGKA, A SACRED ART
Tibetan Thangka paintings, also known as the “Art of Enlightenment”, are sacred pieces of art that are rich in symbolism. They are important supports that are revered for meditation and visualization.
The Tibetan thangka meaning goes deeper than just sacred art and conveys reverence. An art form is genuinely sacred when it awakens a direct experience deeper than our ordinary selves and the material world in the mind.
We are proud to offer our customers only the best selection of Tibetan art. All our paintings go through a rigorous screening process in our studio and are guaranteed to be original, authentic and brand new.
100% COTTON CANVAS & NATURAL MINERALS
Preparing the Cotton canvas before starting to paint a Thangka. This process includes washing, drying, stretching, sizing and everything needed to make a perfect base for the thangka to last for centuries.
Thangk paintings are paintign using natural minerals such as agate, gold, silver, cinnabar, saffron, ocher, rhubarb, lapis and many other minerals. To create the ideal pigment for painting, these materials are ground several times. This makes the materials even more durable and long-lasting. Thus, you can surely expect the color of the Thangka to withstand the test of time.
The gold in the ornaments and detailing is made from real gold dust.

What I like most about The Art of Tibet is that they ALWAYS send me not only exactly what I ordered (as opposed to pictures not being accurate!) and many times include another small item in my order as a token of gratitude. Then, to top it off, I managed to get a singing bowl that I've wanted for awhile at 25% off. Winner!
